Nelson region has now been declared a region of absolute labour shortage by the Ministry of Social Development. Nelson now joins Marlborough, Central Otago, and Hawke’s Bay as ‘declared’ regions.

Occupational Shortages Review July 2006

The Department of Labour (DoL) Workforce Group currently maintains two occupational shortages lists: the Immediate Skill Shortage List (ISSL) and the Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL). Potential migrants use these lists to understand where the opportunities for work lie in New Zealand.

 

New report shows Immigration New Zealand meeting employer needs

A new report from the Department of Labour shows that, overall, the Immigration Service met the majority of the needs of employers who hired skilled migrants between August 2003 and December 2004. Eighty-one percent of the employers reported they were satisfied with the migrants they had hired (i.e. rating the migrant’s performance on the job as ‘good’ or ‘very good’).
